A Closer Look: ASGR Los Angeles Region 2014 Prospects

San Diego State head coach Beth Burns is pursuing several prospects from the Los Angeles area.

California kids have a major presence in the Class of 2014, with seven Californians ranked in the national Top 50. The chase for those recruits is accelerating, and the All Star Girls Report is following all the action. In the coming days, ASGR will break down the top recruits in the class by region. Today, we look at the ASGR Los Angeles Region, which includes the entire state of California. Subscribers can log on to the database at the subscriber login at the top of the page.

The complete  All Star Girls Report database has over 200 players (2014-2018 classes) from the California region. Ratings and player notes are included from veteran ASGR analyst Bret McCormick, providing programs from high majors to mid-majors with invaluable information.

Here are the Top 25 prospects for 2014 from the Los Angeles region. The Super Six players from the area include a comment from McCormick.

1.  Gabby Green, 6-2, SG, St. Mary’s College, Oakland, CA.  McCormick: “Gabby is someone who could honestly play anywhere from point guard to power forward. She is a great athlete, she is an intelligent player, and she can really do it all.”

2.  Jordin Canada, 5-7, PG, Winward, Los Angeles, CA.  McCormick: “Jordin is a great point guard. She understands the game and she knows how to get to the free throw line. She is a leader who will take control at end of a close game.”

3.  Lajahna Drummer, 6-3, PF, St. Bernard, Los Angeles, CA.  McCormick: “Unfortunately, Lajahna is out right now with a knee injury. When she is on the court, she is a tremendous athlete with an inside-outside game.”

4.  Monique Billings, 6-3, C, Santiago, Corona, CA.  McCormick: “Monique is a terrific athlete with great leaping ability. Her stock has really risen recently. She has elevated her game, I think she is still improving.”

5.  Mariya Moore, 6-0, WF, Salesian, Pleasant Hill, CA.  McCormick: “Mariya is another tremendous athlete who can really get off the floor. She could end up playing the three or the four because she can score inside, and she has the athleticism to compete on perimeter. She also does a lot of the important little things for a team.”

6.  Mikayla Cowling, 5-11, WF, St. Mary’s Berkeley, CA.  McCormick: “Mikayla has verbally committed to Cal. She is an explosive athlete who is a very aggressive player. She always plays hard, and she can shoot the three. Her sister, Alex, is a senior at Loyola-Marymount.”
