Illinois has a tradition of strong girls basketball, and that tradition will continue with the Class of 2014. The chase for those recruits is accelerating, and the All Star Girls Report is following all the action. In the coming days, ASGR will break down the top recruits in the class by region. Today, we look at the ASGR Chicago Region, which includes the entire state of Illinois. Subscribers can log on to the database at the subscriber login at the top of the page.

The complete  All Star Girls Report database has over 190 players (2014-2018 classes) from the Illinois region. Ratings and player notes are included from veteran ASGR analyst Bret McCormick, providing programs from high majors to mid-majors with invaluable information.

Here are the Top 25 prospects for 2014 from the Chicago region. The Super Six players from the area include a comment from McCormick.

1.  Jasmine Lumpkin, 6-0, WF, Joliet Catholic, Bolingbrook, IL.  McCormick: “Jasmine is a three-four player who is a great athlete and a great leaper. She rebounds and scores inside, but she also has the ability to step outside.”

2.  Kortney Dunbar, 6-1, WF, Edwardsville, Edwardsville, IL.  McCormick: “They say there are shooters and there are makers — Kortney is a true maker. She is an outstanding shooter with unbelievable range. She is also a smart player who could play the three or two.”

3.  Shami Goodman, 5-8, PG, Morgan Park, Chicago, IL.  McCormick: “Shami is an athletic, strong combo guard who is great off the dribble. She is a player who just knows how to score.”

4.  Taylor Brame, 5-11, WF, Whitney Young, Chicago, IL.  McCormick: “Taylor is a little bit of a sleeper prospect. She is a good athlete with a nice inside-out game, and she has been coming on strong.”

5.  Tyra Buss, 5-7, PG, Mt. Carmel, Mt. Carmel, IL.  McCormick: “Tyra is an Indiana commitment who is a good passer, but the main thing about Tyra is that she can really put up big numbers. I think she will be a point guard at Indiana, and she is very skilled.”

6.  Amber Witherspoon, 6-5, C, Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL.  McCormick: “Amber is a very athletic post player who can jump out of the gym. She is still a little raw in some areas, but she has tremendous potential.”
