2018’s Will Lead Memphis Elite In Virginia Beach

Teams with outstanding talent frequently make the decision to have those athletes compete against older girls in order to create a challenge. The Memphis Elite program followed that strategy with their 2018 group, and they should reap the rewards in the coming months.

“This should be a big year for our top team, our 2018’s. They have been playing ‘up’ the past three years, and they will finally be the ‘older’ kids this summer,” explained Coach Eric Daniels. “I really think they will be really strong.”

Those Memphis Elite athletes will be showcasing their talents at the 2017 Virginia Beach Classic. The tournament will be played on April 28-30, with the entire event held under one roof at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

The Convention Center is located just minutes away from the beach, and the venue should be loaded with college coaches from all levels. The area will be hosting the Virginia Beach Classic and the Nike Boo Williams will be 30 minutes away that weekend, and expectations are that over 600 coaches will be scouting the events.

Among the 2018 standouts for Memphis Elite will be Brittini Moore (6-0, F), Shay Johnson (5-5, PG), Jave Wells (6-0, PF) and Ronni Williams (5-8, PG).

“Brittini is a high energy player who is really good at finishing on the offensive end,” Daniels said. “Defensively, she plays a lot bigger than 6-0. Brittini worked hard in the fall on her three-point shot, and she made a lot of progress.

“Shay is a very quick, very savvy point guard. She may not be tall, but she knows how to finish in the lane. Defensively, Shay can be overwhelming. She is one of our best defenders.

“Jave is our Dennis Rodman. She is a tenacious rebounder, and she is just a stat sheet stuffer. Jave isn’t one of those players who needs to have plays run through her in order to impact a game.

“Ronni is a lightning quick guard who is really coming into her own. I think she is going to have a good summer. She is doing a great job of running the team, and she is becoming a coach on the floor.”
