One program out West has received a lot of attention this year because of a special group of young players. The Arizona Select club has enjoyed the presence of Lauren Satterwhite (2017, 5-8, PG), Taylor Chavez (2018, 5-10, W), Caitlin Bickle (2018, 6-2, PF) and McKenzie Forbes (2018, 6-0, W).
“We have four players who are very, very good. I’m not sure which one is going to end up being the best player, but they are all very good, and they are all getting a lot of attention from major college coaches,” said program director Ben Boyd.
“We have 48 kids in our program right now from the 2018 class or below, and there are a lot of good players. Our 15U team got off to a solid start, and they have really been progressing. We’re excited to see what they will be able to do in July.”
Arizona Select will cross the country in July, and they will close out their campaign at the 2015 ASGR Summer Basketball Playoff in Charlotte, NC on July 27-30. The event, which will feature many of America’s top club programs, will be held at the Carolina Courts facility.
Satterwhite, who is listed as the No. 71 recruit in her class by the All Star Girls Report, and Chavez were profiled in a previous Arizona Select story. Bickle is at No. 53 in the ASGR rankings, and Forbes is at No. 33.
“Caitlin is a stretch four with an inside-outside game,” Boyd said. “She is a heady player with a great skill set. She has three-point range, she can take people off the bounce, and she has a great face-up game. But Caitlin can also play with her back to the basket, and she has a great motor.
“Caitlin made the final 40 at the USA Basketball trials, and she is getting heavy interest from BCS schools.
“McKenzie is a high IQ player with a great pace to her game. She can shoot the three, and she can attack the basket off the bounce. She is also very strong, and that helps her on the inside.”
